A bit about me
"I have come out of the shadows to capture beauty on paper to bring joy to peoples' lives"
I have lived in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada all my life. My studio is just outside of the quaint village of Ayer's Cliff. I am a self-taught artist who works mainly in watercolor. I chose watercolor because I liked the simplicity of the setup required, I preferred the look of a finished piece compared to other mediums, and also because I enjoy a challenge. Watercolor has a reputation of being a difficult medium, mainly because it is difficult to correct, so planning is essential. I also enjoy the unique look of pen and watercolor, and after trying oils and dry pastels, in 2022 I started doing linocut printing. I started painting relatively late in life, while I was still teaching Computer Science at a local college. Since retiring, I have been able to spend more time studying and working to improve my art. |
I truly believe that original art is magical, Find out what I mean by reading my blog on the subject!
Fourth of a family of five children, I was often known as the "quiet one" and always felt I was in the shadow of my siblings. This perhaps is why, at this time in my life when I am coming out of these shadows, I am drawn most to images that show a high contrast between light and shadow, or an unusual angle or point of view. After several years of painting in a very realistic style, undoubtedly because of my mathematical brain, I now almost exclusively paint stylised or purely abstract works. Probably because of its unpredictability, watercolor is not often used for abstract painting, and I enjoy the balance required between planning and spontaneity. You can find out more about my painting process in a series of blog posts starting here. I am part of several wonderful groups of local artists, one in Ayer's Cliff, one in Magog, two in Sherbrooke, and one in Coaticook, where some of my work is available in a small gallery, the CAAZ Boutique Galerie d'Art (Facebook / Website). I have done several custom pieces (commissions) for collectors both in the US and in Canada. The "Custom Work" page explains the process if you are interested in commissioning a custom painting for yourself, or as a unique gift. In addition to full-size paintings, I also produce smaller trading card sized original paintings (ACEOs) and greeting cards(prints). I also am interested in ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) and would love to start a local trading group! (Follow the blog post link in the ACEO section below to find out more about both ACEOs and ATCs) If you are interested in purchasing reproductions of my artwork, many are available either as wall art or a variety of useful items, such as tote bags, phone cases or even shower curtains. You can order them directly from two different suppliers: Art of Where and Fine Art America. |
Original artworkMy portfolio of paintings is now available through the Shop/Magasin link above. Most paintings are matted and framed, but they can also be sold unframed to cut down on shipping costs (which are always additional and will be charged to you at my cost). Of course paintings can also be picked up at my studio! I continue to believe that buying original art is very personal, and I want to do everything I can to make it the best experience for you! Please contact me if any of the paintings interest you, and it will be my pleasure to get back to you. We can schedule an online visit or a studio visit if you wish!
If you are looking for a truly unique painting, consult my Custom Work page to find out how we can work together to get you exactly the painting you want! If you are looking for a gift and can't decide, I also offer Gift Cards on the ACEOs, Cards and Paintings shopping pages. |
ACEOsArtist Card Editions and Originals are trading card sized paintings, done in my case mostly in pen and watercolor. Because of their small size, they are a very affordable way to own original art. Properly matted and framed in a 5x7 or 8x10 frame, they can be quite striking!
They are available several ways, staring at just $17.50 ACEOs, as well as Gift Cards, are available on the ACEOs shopping page Read more about ACEOS on this blog post that I wrote about them! |
Greeting CardsMany of my paintings are also available as greeting cards, blank inside. Most are 5x7 in and some are 4x6 in; they all come with a matching white envelope. They are $4.50 each or any 3 for $10. Shipping is extra but pick up is free!
Greeting cards, as well as Gift Cards, are available on the Card/Cartes shopping page. You will also find a special limited offer there to send a FREE e-card! |
Prints (hand printed)I discovered linocut printing in 2022, and absolutely love it!
Making a linocut requires first cutting a design, in reverse, into a block of rubber or linoleum, in effect making a "stamp". The block is then inked and pressed onto paper, either by hand or using a press. The block can be used to make "editions" of multiple prints. You can see what prints I have available on the Prints page of my online shop. |
